Day one of the Civil War Washington Fellowship. We met at the Old Soldier's Home--Lincoln spent 13 of his 51 months in DC there. More about that later.
The evening was mostly getting to know each other stuff. There are 19 of use from all over the country. We were given a lay of the land and encouraged to wrestle with DC not as it is but as it was. A half finished Capitol building and Washington Monument. Even the Potomac River will drastically change as the result of the war.
Like our students, they've asked us to prepare for our time here. Now we need to fully engage the moment.
The theme this week is the title of the post. More on that later too as we head to Tudor Place tomorrow.
A gentle reminder ...
The goal of this blog initially was for Mr. Mc to show his students and friends what he doing while in Pennsylvania and DC in 2011. Now it's being used as a place for him, travelling colleagues and former students to discuss edumacation and history related "stuff" as well as ... well, anything which pops into his head. Mr. Mc would never knowingly embarrass either the school he loves or the family he is devoted to. By joining in the discussion, he expects the same of you.
